19 April 2012
After a hard winter, spring is taking place between the sun and soft rains. Pruning is over and we can see the first shoots in the vineyard. Weather conditions are ideal and vineyard work is done perfectly in time. The number of light rains are unexpected in a region short of water. Still the risk of frost can be feared until mid-May.
April is the month when nature resurfaces and we must already remove the herb between the plants. This work is done with the tractor in a natural and mechanical way. You can see the state of the soil on the attached pictures. The floor is shallow ploughed between the rows and we wait for the earth to dry to work between the plants. You can view the last year video of tillage by clicking here (see 1'55''). If you compare the video of last year and the pictures of April 19, you will se that the vine is less developped than one year ago.
Around the vinyards, the sour cherry trees have finished flowering and you can already see the fruit that gave its name to Pierre-Marie Chermette's Beaujolais : Les Griottes.
