The Saint Amour is the most northern of the Beaujolais, located in the village of Saint-Amour 12km South of Mâcon. From the top of its 300 meters of altitude, it dominates the valley of the Saône and the Bresse. The terroir of Les Champs-Grillés, with an area of 3 hectares, is rare and precious since it represents only 1% of the AOC Saint Amour. It was created in 1964. Very flowery on the nose. A balanced wine with a beautiful body and complex aromas of red fruits. It is the wine of the lovers’ day, Valentine’s Day !
The terroir of Les Champs-Grillés is made of noble granites. Plots benefit from a microclimate with a beautiful South-East facing. This type of facing gives the grapes a good maturity and provides a supple wine with fine tannins similar to Fleurie. Its fruit develops subtle aromas of flowers. The granite gives a beautiful body, close to the one of Moulin à Vent. The whole produces a balanced, fresh and radiant nectar, perfectly adapted to the Valentine’s Day.
The Saint Amour expresses itself perfectly in the first months for Valentine’s Day and improves during then years.
One grape variety, the Gamay. The plots rest on a pink granitic soil with friable shales close to the Moulin à Vent soils. The average age of the vines is 50 years.
Sustainable agriculture, pruning Goblet, Guyot and Cordon de Royat. The harvest is done manually at full maturity. Vinification : Traditional vinification of Beaujolais : half carbonic maceration with two pumping per day, maceration from 10 to 12 days in concrete tanks, no chaptalization, minimum of SO2.
The balance of this wine allows it to ally with many dishes. All red and white meats as well as cheeses such as Camembert or Saint Marcelin.
